Scratchin Beg belongs to a generation of underground figures whose recognition is built neither on overexposure nor on social media, but on sound, gesture, and time. A DJ first and foremost, his approach to mixing is demanding, shaped by years of digging, collecting, and searching for rare records and tracks.
His sets follow a clear narrative arc, moving from Hip Hop to Afro, from Future Beat to Jazz Funk, guided by groove and a strong sense of energy flow. His precise cuts and refined mixing skills have led him to landmark soul and funk nights such as Motown On Mondays in Los Angeles, as well as the Californian underground hip-hop scene. From the Opening Parties of Gilles Peterson’s Worldwide Festival to Funkylicious, the Copenhagen-based nights he launched in 2023, he has developed a discreet yet fully committed international presence.
Alongside his DJ work, his studio productions explore another side of his universe: more cinematic, more mental, more intimate. On the Orthophony project, he combines turntablism and loopstation techniques in collaboration with the legendary D-Styles (The Beat Junkies / Invisibl Skratch Piklz). The project stands out for its dark and tense atmosphere, with hypnotic—sometimes unsettling—textures, rooted in a very old-school and resolutely abstract spirit.
Across DJ sets and productions alike, his work maps out a complex, dense, and carefully articulated world, inviting deep and attentive listening.
