Hugo Kant explores trip-hop, electro, dub, jazz, world, psychedelic, and even classical music, weaving them together with rare ease to create dense, free, and generous soundscapes.
His universe revolves around his jazz-tinged flute, sensitive keyboards, and electronic textures that draw as much from traditional sounds as from the vibrations of the ’70s. On stage, his sets become festive, carried by strong melodies and rhythms that immediately grab you.
“The rigor of classical composers and the inventive energy of jazz soloists,” writes The Artchimist — a phrase that sums up the drive of his project, which began in 2011 with the Searching London EP and the album I Don’t Want To Be An Emperor.
He followed with the Leave Me Alone EP in 2013, featuring remixes by The Herbaliser and Chinese Man, then The Point Of No Return, bringing together Kathrin de Boer, Astrid Engberg, and LostPoet.
Next came Out Of Time (2017), Far From Home (2020) — preceded by The Seven Seas — the single Now That’s All Changed (2021), and the live album Beyond The Tracks (2024).
In 2025, he releases Yaar and his fifth studio album, Can’t Be Done.
Over the years, he has collaborated with The Herbaliser, Chinese Man, Ancient Astronauts, Degiheugi, and many others. On stage, he takes the audience on a journey, propelling his music into a space where improvisation meets electro.
